Galloway clashes with Starkey on BBC Question Time
Panellists clashed over the week’s issues on BBC Question Time in Gillingham.
Perhaps somewhat predictably, George Galloway clashed with David Starkey on just about every issue put in front of them. The discussion focused on some of the issues to have emerged from this week, including the acquittal of Coronation Street star Bill Roach. George Galloway and Starkey clashed particularly on this issue, with Starkey enduring a backlash on Twitter following his comments that implied that rape had to involve violence and that society was ‘confused’ on how to deal with such matters. Galloway responded by saying that “no means no”, calling Starkey’s comments “utter reactionary tosh”.
The panel also clashed on issues from the education sector, where George advocated the abolishing of private schools and the abolishing of their charitable status, as well as the Tube strikes and women in politics.
Also on the panel were Conservative minister Matthew Hancock, former Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell and economist Alison Wolf.
