Abolish ATOS

The government’s commitment to make poor people pay for the crimes of rich people has led to the scandal of ATOS. This is an organisation which drives wheelchair-bound and disabled people back to work in clamp down on the ‘benefits culture’, part of the lexicon which is so beloved of the Tories. This is unacceptable in 21st century Britain. The welfare state is perhaps Britain’s greatest ever achievement; when Britain had achieved a sophistication such that those who were unable to work were looked after by the common good. The Tories, via the blunt instrument of ATOS, are slowly dragging us backwards via their destruction of the welfare state.

Respect stands against this crass attempt to paint people on benefits as the cause of our problems. We call for ATOS to be scrapped and for a comprehensive welfare system to be provided for those who need it.
