End to Tax Evasion and Avoidance
Britain’s total annual bill for tax evasion and avoidance is estimated to be in excess of the entire budget deficit; that is to say that if everybody paid the right amount of tax, Britain would be deficit-free.
There is now an endemic culture of tax avoidance and evasion in the upper echelons of society and our political parties are either too weak or too venal to address it properly.
In line with our policies on progressive taxation to tackle economic inequality, Respect stands for a tougher policy on tax avoiders and evaders. We promise to be tough to those who seek to exploit Britain’s soft-touch approach to taxation, and this particularly includes those working within the financial services sector.
