Lee Jasper on ‘The Big British Immigration Row: Live’

Respect campaigner and black rights activist Lee Jasper appeared on the Channel 5 debate last night (Monday).

In an often badly-tempered, disorganised and fiery debate on the perennially contentious topic of immigration entitled, aptly, ‘The Big Immigration Row: Live’, Lee stood out as a champion of the benefits of immigration alongside some other well-known pundits.

At one stage threatening to walk out at Channel 5′s puerile attempt to link the radical hate speech of cleric Anjem Choudary to the debate on immigration, he also accused fellow panellist Katie Hopkins of ‘toxic prejudice’.

Katie Hopkins was in many ways the stand-out commentator but never for the right reasons, even managing to outmanoeuvre guttersnipe columnist Kelvin Mackenzie for the position of the guest who received the greatest derision from the assembled audience.

Having apparently offended Mo Ansar on the subject of his religion before the show, Ms Hopkins seemed intent to insult as many members of the panel and audience as possible within the allotted hour and a half. Indeed, the most remarkable thing about Ms Hopkins is that she rarely seems aware of just how obnoxious she can be. At one stage, in response to the argument that immigration is good for economic reasons, she  claimed that the debate is ‘always too much about the facts’, proving that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Lee came across eloquently and calm despite the obvious provocations and chaotic nature of the programme, and a fantastic ambassador for the Respect Party.

If you missed the debate, you can catch it again on Channel 5′s catch-up service here - although you’ll need a strong stomach.
