Galloway calls for parliament to be moved north
Rather than spend £3billion on repairing the crumbling Houses of Parliament, a new parliament should be created in the north, the Respect candidate for Bradford West, George Galloway, said tonight.
“The idea of spending billions of pounds on holding together the present parliament is a nonsense,” he said. “I’ve been in the present building for almost 30 years and I love it dearly. But what we need is not to patch up and prop up the old, we need to usher in the new. I’d make the grand old mother of all parliaments into a museum and I will campaign to have a new one built in the centre of the country. And that’s on the Leeds-Bradford border.”
Galloway was speaking in a hustings held in Bradford Cathedral.
