Bradford West remains Britain's epicentre of unemployment. Once again the constituency has shown the highest year-on-year increase of all Britain's 650 constituencies. MP George Galloway described is as 'a national disgrace'.
In July Bradford West recorded a 25% increase in joblessness over the same month in 2011. Overall the unemployment rate in the constituency was 13.7%. Galloway said: 'Another month and another depressing and shameful Number 1 for Bradford West. For the third consecutive month at least, my constituency recorded the highest increase of any of the 650 constituencies in the country - a 25% year-on-year increase. Youth unemployment has also soared by 22%.
'This is a national scandal and a national disgrace. When will local politicians stop covering-up and pretending that they're on top of things and it's getting better? The figures don't lie. Bradford is in danger of becoming a dead zone, a ghost town.'
The MP continued: 'The policies of this government are destroying the fabric of our society. We need a massive investment in infrastructure and capital projects and we need to put money in people's pockets. The only economic lever this despicable coalition government has employed is to make more and more people unemployed. Particularly the young. 'The Olympics, at a cost of more than £9billion, were a massive success. What we need, and what I will be demanding of this government, is an Olympian effort to put my constituents back to work.'
