Diana Raby for Garston and Halewood
Diana Raby is standing for the Respect Party in the new Garston & Halewood constituency at the coming General Election.
Diana has lived in South Liverpool for more than eight years. Born in Norwich, she spent a year in Liverpool as a student before leaving for Canada where she taught at the University of Toronto for many years.
In 2001 she took early retirement and chose to come back to Liverpool to participate in community activities here and work part-time at the University of Liverpool, where she is a Senior Fellow in Latin American Studies.
During her time here she has been active in the Stop the War Coalition, in campaigns against cutbacks in higher education and to defend the NHS, and in solidarity movements with Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia and Palestine.
She believes passionately in social justice and real democracy both here and abroad, and believes we in Britain can learn from the exciting new developments in socialist democracy, popular participation and economic justice in countries like Venezuela and Bolivia.
Diana lives in Wavertree with her partner. She has one son who lives and works in Canada.
